Memory of Pearl

Designer: Sondos Akkari
Artisans: Salim Atiq and Ibrahim Khamis

Memory of Pearl  is a contemporary design collection that reinterprets Palestinian mother-of-pearl inlay through the memories and identities of coastal cities along the Mediterranean.

Each piece draws inspiration from the architectural character, relationship with the sea, and cultural memories of these cities, translating elements such as waves, textures, and urban layers into contemporary design compositions. Through the delicate craft of mother-of-pearl inlay, the collection explores the relationship between material, memory, and place.

By combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary forms, the project preserves the authenticity of shell inlay techniques while introducing refined structures, simplified compositions, and new applications. Each object becomes a carrier of cultural memory, allowing Palestinian coastal heritage to be expressed through contemporary collectible and functional design.
