PHASE 03 —
SYNERGY, CREATIVE PRODUCTION

Phase Three marked a shift from learning and exploration toward production and collaboration. Building on the knowledge and practical experience gained through the workshops and summer training, students worked alongside craftspeople and designers to reinterpret traditional Palestinian crafts, materials, and techniques through contemporary design.

Birzeit University encouraged students who demonstrated particular interest, commitment, and potential to further develop their ideas through direct UNESCO grants under the Collectives Track. Supported by Birzeit University researchers and working closely with craftspeople, the students transformed their ideas into product prototypes, exploring new uses, forms, and design approaches while remaining connected to the knowledge and techniques of traditional craft.

The Design Studio Course (DSIN2410) at the Faculty of Art, Music and Design further supported this process, encouraging students to examine how material and technique shape design outcomes and to engage with craft through spatial and design-based approaches.

Alongside the production process, a series of three public talks continued to create spaces for exchange, reflection, and dialogue, connecting the students’ practical work to broader conversations around craft, design, and contemporary practice.

The prototypes developed through this phase represent the culmination of the CREATE journey: from encountering craft, to learning through it, and ultimately to creating with it.
